Final recommendations in relation to privacy in the convergent society: a user empowerment perspective

9 sep 2014 /

This deliverable describes the main findings and recommendations for the EMSOC project made in WP3 by the Centre for Law, Science and Technology Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. It analyses a number of legal interventions and solutions that have been proposed to empower users of social networking sites (SNS) vis-‐à-‐vis invisible audiences, in particular social networking sites themselves, advertisers, and employers. These interventions include (a) the creation of ‘new rights’ such as ‘the right to be forgotten’ and ‘the right to data portability’, (b) increasing data protection transparency rights, and (c) guidelines for employers to monitor the use of SNS by their employees.
